What is cienaCes8021xSuppDeviceCertificateStatus?

This read-only field reports the current validity state of the certificate installed on this switch for its own use as an EAP-TLS supplicant -- present and valid, present but invalid (e.g., expired or from an untrusted CA), or simply not installed at all. An admin checks this specifically when EAP-TLS-based supplicant authentication is failing, since a notPresent or invalid device certificate would explain authentication failures that have nothing to do with the upstream server or network at all. For example, an admin troubleshooting why this switch can't authenticate onto an EAP-TLS-secured uplink after a certificate rotation project might find this field reporting invalid, immediately pointing to an expired or improperly installed local device certificate as the root cause rather than a network issue.
