Category: ATM, SNA and Legacy Protocols, Vendor: Nortel

Description: Manages Token Ring source routing bridge configuration and statistics on Nortel Centillion switch platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CENTILLION-SOURCE-ROUTING-MIB?

CENTILLION-SOURCE-ROUTING-MIB is a Bay Networks (Nortel Centillion) enterprise MIB that manages Token Ring source-routing bridge configuration on Centillion switch platforms, rooted under cndot1dSr from CENTILLION-BRIDGE-MIB. It defines cndot1dSrPortTable (indexed by cndot1dSrPort) exposing per-port hop-count limits for All-Paths-Explorer and Spanning-Tree-Explorer frames (cndot1dSrPortAREHopCount, cndot1dSrPortSTEHopCount), plus scalar controls cndot1dSrExplorerProxy (whether the bridge proxies explorer packets) and cndot1dSrBridgeNum (the source-routing bridge number, 0–15, shared across a Token Ring SR bridge group). These objects expose the bridge's source-routing control-plane configuration, useful for confirming explorer-frame handling limits and bridge numbering are consistent across a Token Ring SR bridge group to avoid routing loops or explorer storms. It depends on CENTILLION-ROOT-MIB for the EnableIndicator type and on CENTILLION-BRIDGE-MIB for the cndot1dSr base object, and is deployed on Nortel Centillion switches operating in legacy Token Ring source-routing bridge environments. Teams still supporting this legacy hardware frequently keep a CENTILLION-SOURCE-ROUTING-MIB download handy for reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CENTILLION-SOURCE-ROUTING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel/Bay Networks Centillion Token Ring switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cndot1dSrPortTable's cndot1dSrPortAREHopCount and cndot1dSrPortSTEHopCount for a given port to confirm explorer frame hop limits match the network's ring topology, and checks cndot1dSrBridgeNum to verify it is consistent with other bridges in the same SR bridge group; a duplicate or mismatched bridge number across bridges spanning the same segments would indicate a misconfiguration likely to cause explorer frame looping.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port explorer frame hop-count limits (ARE/STE)
  • explorer packet proxy setting
  • source-routing bridge number assignment
