This enables or disables the modem's communication link, over the FSK/DC-power cable, with its outdoor unit (ODU), the BUC/LNB hardware mounted at the antenna. With this disabled, the modem can no longer query or control the ODU's status such as power, alarms, or current draw, so any BUC/LNB fault reporting or remote power control on this platform effectively goes dark. Setting this to disabled(0) on a modem whose ODU communications hardware has failed prevents the unit from repeatedly logging ODU-comms-timeout faults it can never resolve.
