This counter tracks the total number of broadcast IP packets the router has sent out to its Ethernet interface. Broadcast traffic arriving over the satellite path should normally be a small fraction of total Ethernet-bound traffic, so this counter climbing disproportionately fast relative to unicast traffic can indicate a broadcast storm being relayed from the satellite side onto the local LAN. A healthy site might see this counter increase by only single digits per minute, whereas hundreds of broadcasts per second forwarded to Ethernet would be a red flag worth isolating with a packet capture.
