This is the HDLC address configured for the first of the unit's four demodulators, valid range depending on the addressing mode selected elsewhere (1-254 in small-network mode, 1-32766 in large-network mode), and per its own description cannot use 0x00 or 0xFF in the least-significant byte, since values like 0x400, 0x6ff, or 0x11ff are explicitly invalid HDLC addresses. Setting this to zero is the documented way to delete/clear the address for this demodulator. For example, an admin decommissioning demod 1's role on a shared-carrier network would set this to zero to free that address for reassignment elsewhere on the network.
