This is simply the total count of frames the port has switched, a general throughput counter for that port without breaking traffic down by local/forwarded/broadcast categories the way neighboring objects do. An admin uses it as the headline traffic-volume figure for a port when doing a quick health check or capacity trend graph. Comparing this counter's growth rate across all ports on the switch quickly reveals which port is carrying the most load.
