This is a secondary index used together with the port index to locate a specific record inside the optimized port station address table, which packs multiple station entries into a single retrievable OCTET STRING (via cat2600TsOptPortStaVal) rather than exposing one row per station. An admin's monitoring tool uses this position value purely as a pagination/lookup mechanism when walking the optimized table, not as configuration data itself. It exists mainly to let bulk retrieval of many stations happen efficiently in a single SNMP GET rather than one GET per station.
