This sets how many minutes of inactivity must pass before the switch ages out (forgets) a learned MAC address from its forwarding table, with a value of zero disabling aging entirely so entries never expire on their own. An admin shortens this on segments with frequently roaming or reconfigured devices (like a lab with lots of DHCP churn) to keep the table current, or lengthens it on stable server segments to reduce relearning overhead. The default is 5 minutes, and the setting is preserved across resets and power cycles.
