Category: Applied Innovation / Console Servers

Description: Manages Applied Innovation line card and chassis hardware for serial communication servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is AISLC1-MIB?

AISLC1-MIB is the base MIB module for Applied Innovation's Series One Smart Line Cards (SLC), a family of line card hardware installed in AI chassis-based remote access and console server systems. Its sample objects (aiSystemOID, aiSLC1System) indicate it primarily defines the system identity object registration tree used to identify card type and firmware version rather than exposing rich runtime tables itself. As a system-identity MIB it supports hardware status monitoring indirectly, by letting management software determine exactly which SLC hardware/software variant is installed via its object identifier, which is a prerequisite for correctly interpreting counters and traps from companion MIBs on the same card. It is a foundational module that other AI SLC-family MIBs (such as AISLCASYNC-MIB and AISLCSYSCFG-MIB) build on for their object identity assignments. It is typically deployed in Applied Innovation chassis systems used for serial console access and remote terminal management in telecom central offices. Engineers can download the AISLC1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AISLC1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Applied Innovation Series One Smart Line Card
  • Applied Innovation chassis-based access system

Monitoring Examples

A management system would read the sysObjectID (populated from this MIB's aiSLC1System branch) to identify the installed line card as a Series One Smart Line Card and select the correct set of companion MIBs (e.g. AISLCASYNC-MIB) for further polling. Because this MIB largely defines identity OIDs rather than live counters, there is limited direct monitoring data beyond confirming card identity/version via the ai192/ai192Ver7 branches.

What Can Be Monitored

  • line card identity/model
  • firmware version branch identification

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using aislc1StatFErrFifoInIsr OID:

Select an Applied Innovation Smart Line Card (SLC) network access equipment (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type aislc1StatFErrFifoInIsr into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of RxFIFO half-full ISR interrupts which occurred. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
