zyTransceiverSerialModuleType

Module: ZYXEL-TRANSCEIVER-MIB

OID (symbolic): ZYXEL-TRANSCEIVER-MIB::zyTransceiverSerialModuleType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.15.3.84.1.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Transceiver module type.

What is zyTransceiverSerialModuleType?

This value reports the operational type of the installed SFP/transceiver module: okWithDdm(1) if it is working and supports digital diagnostic monitoring, okWithoutDdm(2) if it is working but lacks DDM support, or nonoperational(3) if it is not functioning. An admin checks this first when troubleshooting a port to know whether the transceiver is even readable and whether detailed DDMI readings like temperature and power will be available at all. A value of nonoperational(3) tells the admin to focus on the transceiver itself, such as a bad module or unsupported vendor part, rather than the DDMI thresholds.

Start monitoring ZyXEL Ethernet switches with SFP/SFP+ transceiver slots (DDMI optical-power/temperature/voltage threshold status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the ZYXEL-TRANSCEIVER-MIB::zyTransceiverSerialModuleType OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any ZyXEL Ethernet switches with SFP/SFP+ transceiver slots (DDMI optical-power/temperature/voltage threshold status) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a ZyXEL Ethernet switches with SFP/SFP+ transceiver slot (DDMI optical-power/temperature/voltage threshold status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type zyTransceiverSerialModuleType into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the transceiver module type. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is 'nonoperational', or it changes unexpectedly, since the transceiver type should stay constant for a given physical module and a change often means it was swapped or is failing. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
