Description: Enable/Disable loop guard on the switch. Loop guard allows you to configure the switch to shut down a port if it detects that packets sent out on that port loop back to the switch. Loop guard is designed to handle loop problems on the edge of your network. This can occur when a port is connected to a switch that is in a loop state. Loop state occurs as a result of human error. For example, it happens when two ports on a switch are connected with the same cable. When a switch in loop state sends out broadcast messages the messages loop back to the switch and are re-broadcast again and again causing a broadcast storm.
What is zyLoopGuardState?
Setting this object to enabled or disabled turns loop guard on or off switch-wide, a feature that shuts down a port if the switch detects that packets sent out on it loop back to itself, which typically happens when two ports on the same switch get accidentally cabled together. An administrator enables this at the network edge to automatically contain accidental cabling loops before they cause a broadcast storm across the whole network. For example, if someone accidentally plugs both ends of a patch cable into two ports on the same switch, loop guard would detect the looped traffic and shut down the offending port automatically.
Examples
Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.15.3.45.1.1 snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> ZYXEL-LOOPGUARD-MIB::zyLoopGuardState
Get a specific instance (index 1):
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.15.3.45.1.1.1 snmpget -v2c -c public <target> ZYXEL-LOOPGUARD-MIB::zyLoopGuardState.1
Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):
snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.15.3.45.1.1.1 s <value>
