zyCpuProtectionRateLimit

Module: ZYXEL-CPU-PROTECTION-MIB

OID (symbolic): ZYXEL-CPU-PROTECTION-MIB::zyCpuProtectionRateLimit

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.890.1.15.3.16.1.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Enter a number from 0 to 256 to specified how many control packets this port can receive or transmit per second. 0 means no rate limit.

What is zyCpuProtectionRateLimit?

This value sets how many control packets, such as ARP, BPDU, or other switch-CPU-bound protocol packets, a given port is allowed to send or receive per second, as part of protecting the switch's CPU from being overwhelmed by a flood of such traffic; a value of 0 means no rate limit is applied. Administrators tune this on ports at risk of control-plane traffic storms, like uplinks to untrusted networks, to prevent a flood of control packets from starving the switch's own management CPU. For example, setting this to 50 on an access port would cap that port's contribution of control-plane traffic to 50 packets per second, protecting the switch even if that port is attacked or misconfigured.
