Description: Monitors EMC VNXe unified storage system health, pool capacity, LUN status, and alerts.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Vnxe-MIB?
Vnxe-MIB is EMC's vendor-private notification-only MIB for the VNXe unified storage product line; unlike its name might suggest, it does not expose pollable objects for pool capacity or LUN status -- it defines a small set of generic trap-variable objects (vnxeTrapNode, vnxeTrapComponent, vnxeTrapSymptomID, vnxeTrapSymptomText, vnxeTrapTimeStamp) plus eight severity-graded NOTIFICATION-TYPEs (vnxeGenericTrapEmergency, vnxeGenericTrapAlert, vnxeGenericTrapCritical, vnxeGenericTrapError, vnxeGenericTrapWarning, vnxeGenericTrapNotice, vnxeGenericTrapInformational, vnxeGenericTrapDebug) mirroring syslog-style severity levels. Each trap carries the originating node, the affected component, a symptom ID/text pair describing the condition, and a timestamp, so the MIB's monitoring value comes entirely from trap reception rather than table polling. It depends on the VNXe array's internal event/symptom-code system to populate vnxeTrapSymptomID/Text meaningfully, and is deployed alongside EMC VNXe unified storage arrays as a companion to their primary management interface rather than a replacement for pool/LUN status polling, and administrators can download the Vnxe-MIB file to register these traps in their trap receiver.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Vnxe-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- EMC VNXe unified storage arrays
Monitoring Examples
A trap receiver alerts on an incoming vnxeGenericTrapCritical or vnxeGenericTrapAlert and reads vnxeTrapComponent and vnxeTrapSymptomText to identify which VNXe subsystem is affected; repeated vnxeGenericTrapError traps referencing the same vnxeTrapComponent would indicate a persistent fault worth escalating.
What Can Be Monitored
- severity-graded fault/event traps (emergency through debug)
- affected component identification per trap
- symptom ID/text per trap
- trap timestamp
- originating node/IP per trap
