messageCode

Module: ThreeParMIB

OID (symbolic): ThreeParMIB::messageCode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.12925.1.7.1.8

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Unsigned32

Access: read-only

Description: Message code is assigned to a particular event type, and is encoded as a 32-bit number in the following way: The MSB 8 bits are reserved. The next 8 bits represent a particular subsystem or component. The LSB 16 bits are the keycode id within the subsystem.

For example, Remote Copy Target Down event has a subsystem ID of 37 (remote copy subsystem), and a keycode ID of 1, thus the message code for this event = ((37 << 16) | 1) = 0x250001 = 2424833.

This is shown as 'Message Code' in the CLI 'showalert' display, and also shows up in the Alerts Details Pane in the GUI.

What is messageCode?

This object holds a structured 32-bit numeric code assigned to each alert type, where the middle bits identify the subsystem involved, such as remote copy, and the low bits identify the specific event within that subsystem. An admin can use this code to precisely classify or automate handling of alerts, filtering or routing based on the code rather than parsing free text, and it is the same code shown as Message Code in the 3PAR CLI and GUI. For example, a messageCode value of 2424833 decodes to subsystem 37, remote copy, with keycode 1, corresponding to a Remote Copy Target Down event, per the MIB's own worked example.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.12925.1.7.1.8
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> ThreeParMIB::messageCode

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.12925.1.7.1.8.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> ThreeParMIB::messageCode.1
