What is idsPingofdeath?

This counter tracks the total number of Ping of Death attacks the Topsec IDS has detected, a technique that sends oversized or malformed ICMP echo request packets to crash vulnerable systems. An admin monitors this counter as a legacy-threat indicator, since modern operating systems are largely immune to this older exploit. For example, a nonzero idsPingofdeath count might reflect an automated scanning tool testing many possible legacy vulnerabilities rather than a targeted attack.
