Module: TAILF-ALARM-MIB

OID (symbolic): TAILF-ALARM-MIB::tfAlarmType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.24961.2.103.1.1.5.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: SnmpAdminString

Access: read-only

Description: This provides an identification of the alarm type. Together with tfAlarmSpecificProblem, this is a unique identification of the alarm. Different managed object types and instances can share alarm types, but if the same managed object reports the same alarm type, it is to be considered as the same alarm state. The alarm type is a simplification of the different X.733 and 3GPP alarm IRP alarm correlation mechanisms based on EventType, ProbableCause, SpecificProblem and NotificationId.

What is tfAlarmType?

Identifies the type of a given alarm entry; combined with tfAlarmSpecificProblem it uniquely identifies the alarm, simplifying the underlying X.733/3GPP EventType, ProbableCause, SpecificProblem, and NotificationId correlation. The same tfAlarmType reported again for the same managed object is treated as an update to the existing alarm state rather than a new alarm, which is how an NMS distinguishes a severity update from a brand-new event. For example, two different interfaces reporting the same tfAlarmType "link-down" are each tracked as their own alarm row, but a repeated report for the same interface just updates the existing entry.
