commitSyslogSettings

Module: SYSLOG

OID (symbolic): SYSLOG::commitSyslogSettings

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.25651.1.2.3.5.6.1000

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-write

Description: This command allows saving or clear the Syslog configuration. Option strings to be written are: save, clear, correspondingly saving changes to configuration to the persistent storage or clearing unsaved changes.

What is commitSyslogSettings?

This object acts as a command trigger rather than a stored value: writing the string 'save' to it commits the current syslog configuration (remote IP address and filter level) to persistent storage, while writing 'clear' discards any unsaved changes. An administrator uses it as the final step after adjusting syslogRemoteIpAddr or syslogFilterSelect, since those settings may not survive a reboot until committed this way. For example, an admin would set syslogRemoteIpAddr and syslogFilterSelect first, then write 'save' to commitSyslogSettings to make the new syslog configuration persistent.
