swSniffState

Module: SW-SNIFF-MIB

OID (symbolic): SW-SNIFF-MIB::swSniffState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.326.2.20.1.2.2.2.28.2.5.1.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object indicates the status of this entry. other(1) - this entry is currently in use but the conditions under which it will remain so are different from each of the following values. disable(2) - Sniff funtion disable. enable(3) - Sniff funtion enable and Sniff received or transmit packet by Sniff source port.

What is swSniffState?

This value controls and reports whether a given port-mirroring entry is actively copying traffic, with enable(3) meaning the switch is duplicating received or transmitted packets from the source port, disable(2) meaning it is not, and other(1) covering any other in-use state per the source description. An administrator flips this to enable(3) to start a temporary packet capture for troubleshooting and back to disable(2) when done, since leaving mirroring on wastes switch resources. For example, setting this object to enable(3) on the entry mirroring port 5 to port 24 would immediately start forwarding copies of port 5's traffic to port 24.
