What is snmpTrapOID?

This is a dotted-number identifier that indicates which type of alert (trap) or notification the device is currently sending. Network engineers use it to classify incoming alerts and route them to the correct handler in their monitoring system. For example, 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3 identifies a 'linkDown trap' so the engineer knows a port went offline.
