snmpUnknownPDUHandlers

Module: SNMP-MPD-MIB

OID (symbolic): SNMP-MPD-MIB::snmpUnknownPDUHandlers

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.6.3.11.2.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: The total number of packets received by the SNMP engine which were dropped because the PDU contained in the packet could not be passed to an application responsible for handling the pduType, e.g. no SNMP application had registered for the proper combination of the contextEngineID and the pduType.

What is snmpUnknownPDUHandlers?

This counter counts SNMP packets that were dropped because their PDU type couldn't be routed to any application on the device, since nothing had registered to handle that particular contextEngineID and PDU type combination. It helps diagnose situations where an SNMP request type (like an unusual SET or a vendor-specific operation) simply has no handler on this agent, as opposed to a security or formatting failure. For example, if a manager sends a PDU type the agent's SNMP subsystem never implemented support for, this counter increments instead of the request silently timing out for no visible reason.
