slEntPhysicalStatus

Module: SL-ENTITY-MIB

OID (symbolic): SL-ENTITY-MIB::slEntPhysicalStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4515.1.3.6.1.1.1.15

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The physical entity status bitmap: 1 - Card is removed from the slot 2 - Communication Fault 4 - Major alarm inherited from the ports 8 - Card or port HW failure 16 - An internal SW failure detected 32 - SW version mismatch detected 64 - Power A Failure 128 - Power B Failure 256 - HW version mismatch detected 512 - Minor alarm inherited from the ports

What is slEntPhysicalStatus?

This value is a bitmap whose individual bits flag specific hardware and communication fault conditions on this entity, such as card removal, power failure, or version mismatches. An admin decodes the bitmap to pinpoint exactly what's wrong, since a value like 64 (Power A Failure) versus 128 (Power B Failure) points to a specific power feed rather than a generic alarm. For example, a reported value of 12 (4+8) would indicate both a major alarm inherited from the ports and a card or port hardware failure simultaneously.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4515.1.3.6.1.1.1.15
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> SL-ENTITY-MIB::slEntPhysicalStatus

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4515.1.3.6.1.1.1.15.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> SL-ENTITY-MIB::slEntPhysicalStatus.1

Start monitoring Smartoptics SiteLight optical network elements (physical entity/firmware/protection-state inventory) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the SL-ENTITY-MIB::slEntPhysicalStatus OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Smartoptics SiteLight optical network elements (physical entity/firmware/protection-state inventory) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Smartoptics SiteLight optical network element as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type slEntPhysicalStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports a bitmap of hardware/software status flags for this physical entity — for example, bit values indicating the card is removed, a communication fault, a major alarm, or a software failure. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 0, since any non-zero bit indicates one of the listed fault conditions is currently active. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
