slEntPhysicalClass

Module: SL-ENTITY-MIB

OID (symbolic): SL-ENTITY-MIB::slEntPhysicalClass

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4515.1.3.6.1.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: PhysicalClass

Access: read-only

Description: An indication of the general hardware type of the physical entity.

An agent should set this object to the standard enumeration value which most accurately indicates the general class of the physical entity, or the primary class if there is more than one.

If no appropriate standard registration identifier exists for this physical entity, then the value 'other(1)' is returned. If the value is unknown by this agent, then the value 'unknown(2)' is returned.

What is slEntPhysicalClass?

This value classifies what general kind of hardware component this physical entity is, using standard categories like chassis, backplane, power supply, fan, sensor, module, or port. Admins use it to group inventory by role, for example distinguishing powerSupply(6) entries from module(9) entries when auditing a chassis's contents. A value of fan(7) would flag entry 103 as one of the chassis's cooling fans rather than a card slot.
