This counter tracks frames the interface has successfully transmitted to a subnetwork or link-layer multicast destination address, excluding broadcast frames, and for MAC-layer protocols includes both Group and Functional addresses. Admins use it to gauge multicast traffic load leaving an interface, for example from routing protocol hellos or multicast video streams. A steadily climbing value while a multicast application is active confirms the interface is actively forwarding multicast frames outward.
