rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets

Module: RBN-STACKEDVLAN-MIB

OID (symbolic): RBN-STACKEDVLAN-MIB::rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.40.1.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: The aggregate of the total number of octets received on each outer vlan and its inner vlans, including framing characters.

What is rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets?

This read-only 64-bit counter tracks the total octets received across an outer VLAN and all of its inner, stacked or QinQ, VLANs combined, including framing characters. Admins use this high-capacity counter on high-throughput stacked-VLAN links where a 32-bit counter would wrap too quickly to give an accurate rate over a polling interval. Comparing two rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets readings five minutes apart lets an admin calculate the aggregate inbound throughput across all inner VLANs riding a given outer VLAN.

Start monitoring Ericsson/Redback SmartEdge broadband aggregation router (802.1ad stacked-VLAN/QinQ traffic statistics) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the RBN-STACKEDVLAN-MIB::rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Ericsson/Redback SmartEdge broadband aggregation router (802.1ad stacked-VLAN/QinQ traffic statistics) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select an Ericsson/Redback SmartEdge broadband aggregation router (802.1ad stacked-VLAN/QinQ traffic statistics) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rbnStackedVlanHCInOctets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The aggregate of the total number of octets received on each outer vlan and its inner vlans, including framing characters. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
