rlSnaNextFreeSessionId

Module: RADLAN-SNA-MIB

OID (symbolic): RADLAN-SNA-MIB::rlSnaNextFreeSessionId

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.229.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: TestAndIncr

Access: read-write

Description: The MIB allows several SNA clients operating at the same time to receive different session ids. Get operation on this MIB will return the next free session id number. An SNA client should then issue SET operation with the value it received. The response will be one of the following: - noError. - inconsistentValue in case another client has already used this session id. - resourceUnavailable in case the number of active sessions has already reached the maximum. In case of success, a new session events database is allocated for the session id.

What is rlSnaNextFreeSessionId?

This value hands out the next available SNA (Systems Network Architecture) session ID; each time a management station reads it, it returns a free ID that the client should immediately write back via an SNMP SET to actually reserve that session. Administrators and SNA client applications use this test-and-increment mechanism so multiple SNA clients running at once don't collide on the same session ID, with error responses covering cases like the ID being taken already or the session table being full. For example, an SNA gateway management app might read this object, get back session ID 47, then SET the value 47 back to claim and initialize that session's event database.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.229.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> RADLAN-SNA-MIB::rlSnaNextFreeSessionId

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.229.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> RADLAN-SNA-MIB::rlSnaNextFreeSessionId.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.89.229.1.1 s <value>
