ppmPrinterPreferredPortIndex

Module: PRINTER-PORT-MONITOR-MIB

OID (symbolic): PRINTER-PORT-MONITOR-MIB::ppmPrinterPreferredPortIndex

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2699.1.2.1.2.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: The value of 'ppmPortIndex' for the preferred port for this printer (configured by vendor or site administrator), or zero if not specified.

Compatibility Note: The value of zero is NOT valid for 'ppmPortIndex'. It is an out-of-band value.

If this object is non-zero, then installation applications SHOULD default to this port in their user interface dialogue.

What is ppmPrinterPreferredPortIndex?

This object gives the ppmPortIndex value of the port that the vendor or site administrator has designated as the preferred connection path for this printer, or zero if none is set. Installer applications read it so that when a user sets up this printer, the software automatically pre-selects the recommended port instead of forcing a manual choice. For example, if a printer supports both LPR (port index 1) and raw TCP (port index 2), setting this to 2 tells install wizards to default to the raw TCP port.
