Module: PRINT-SPOOL-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2

OID (symbolic): PRINT-SPOOL-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2::prsQueueJobs

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.42.2.12.2.2.37.2.2.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: The number of jobs in the printer queue.

What is prsQueueJobs?

This is a read-only integer count of how many print jobs are currently pending in a given print queue. An admin monitors this value to detect a backlog building up on a queue, which often signals a stuck or offline printer that isn't draining submitted jobs. For example, prsQueueJobs climbing to 47 on queue lp0 while prsQueueState remains "accepting requests" suggests jobs are piling up because the physical printer has stopped printing.

Start monitoring Solaris/Unix server running Sun Management Center print spooling with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the PRINT-SPOOL-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2::prsQueueJobs OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Solaris/Unix server running Sun Management Center print spooling from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Solaris/Unix server running Sun Management Center print spooling as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type prsQueueJobs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of jobs in the printer queue. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
