policyCompLimitsGuidance
Module: POLICY-FRAMEWORK-PIB
OID (symbolic): POLICY-FRAMEWORK-PIB::policyCompLimitsGuidance
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.45.4.1.1.4.1.4
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: OCTET STRING
Access: read-only
Description: A value used to convey additional information related to the implementation limitation noted by the policyCompLimitsType attribute. The value of this attribute must interpreted in the context of the policyCompLimitsType value. Note that a guidance value will not necessarily be provided for all exported limitations.
Well-known genericPrc error codes that are applicable to all PRCs, such as 'attrValueSupLimited' and 'attrEnumSupLimited', have guidance value semantics as follows:
genericPrc Guidance Semantics attrValueSupLimited Integer32 (4 octets) with supported value attrEnumSupLimited Integer32 (4 octets) with supported enumeration attrMaxLengthExceeded Integer32 (4 octets) with maximum supported length for attribute
The specificPrc error codes have the semantics of the associated guidance value specified where the installation error is defined if appropriate. Errors for which the semantics of the guidance value are not specified require this value to be treated in an implementation dependent manner.
What is policyCompLimitsGuidance?
This read-only octet string carries additional information about the implementation limitation identified by the corresponding policyCompLimitsType, whose meaning must be interpreted in the context of that type value. A PDP reads it to get the concrete detail behind a reported limitation, such as the specific supported value, enumeration, or maximum length the device will actually accept for that attribute. For example, when policyCompLimitsType reports 'attrMaxLengthExceeded', this guidance field would carry the actual maximum supported length, as a 4-octet Integer32, that the device will accept for that attribute.
