pmNewCapabilityNotification

Module: POLICY-BASED-MANAGEMENT-MIB

OID (symbolic): POLICY-BASED-MANAGEMENT-MIB::pmNewCapabilityNotification

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.124.0.2

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: The pmNewCapabilityNotification is sent when an agent gains a new capability that did not previously exist in any element on the system (not every time an element gains a particular capability).

An instance of the pmCapabilitiesType object is sent containing the identity of the new capability. In the event that two or more elements gain the same capability simultaneously, it is an implementation-dependent matter as to which pmCapabilitiesType instance will be included in the notification.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' POLICY-BASED-MANAGEMENT-MIB::pmNewCapabilityNotification
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.2.1.124.0.2

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:57614->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (188931342) 21 days, 20:48:33.42
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: POLICY-BASED-MANAGEMENT-MIB::pmNewCapabilityNotification
