This value carries the human-readable interface alias (the friendly name an administrator assigned to a port) that is attached to an SNMP trap when the device sends one. It lets an admin immediately see which named interface triggered an alert without having to cross-reference a raw ifIndex number against a separate table. For instance, if a trap fires on a port an admin had labeled "Uplink-to-Core," this object would carry that exact string inside the trap message.
