Category: Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Description: Monitors Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure cluster health, VM resource usage, storage pool capacity, and node fault events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NUTANIX-MIB?

NUTANIX-MIB is Nutanix's vendor MIB for its hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) platform, which combines compute, storage, and virtualization into clustered appliance nodes. It is designed to expose cluster-level health status, virtual-machine resource consumption, storage-pool capacity, and fault/alarm events generated by the platform's software stack. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on software and infrastructure status: cluster health state flags a degraded or unhealthy Nutanix cluster, VM resource-usage objects reveal CPU/memory pressure on individual guest VMs, storage-pool capacity objects warn of an HCI datastore filling up, and fault-event traps notify operators of node or service failures across the cluster. It is a self-contained vendor MIB, but conceptually complements standard host/hardware MIBs, such as HOST-RESOURCES-MIB or vendor hardware MIBs on the underlying server nodes, since it focuses on cluster/software-layer status rather than raw physical sensors. It is deployed in Nutanix HCI environments, such as enterprise or private-cloud data centers, to feed cluster health, capacity, and fault data into SNMP-based monitoring and NMS dashboards. Engineers can download the NUTANIX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NUTANIX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) appliance/cluster node

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the cluster health-status object to confirm overall cluster state, checks VM resource-usage objects to identify a guest VM consuming excessive CPU or memory, and monitors storage-pool capacity objects for utilization approaching a critical threshold; a storage pool crossing its capacity warning level combined with a degraded cluster health state would indicate the Nutanix cluster is at risk of running out of usable storage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster health status
  • VM CPU/memory resource usage
  • storage pool capacity/utilization
  • node/service fault and alarm events
