This reports the ONU's received optical power level (downstream signal strength from the OLT), typically in hundredths of a dBm. Admins use it as a core PON health metric -- a value trending toward the receiver sensitivity floor signals a degrading fiber plant, dirty connector, or excessive splitter loss before the link fails outright. For example, a subscriber reporting intermittent drops with a marginal reading here points an admin toward a physical-layer cause rather than a config issue.
