memoryCommittedBytes

Module: NEWEXPOSE-MIB

OID (symbolic): NEWEXPOSE-MIB::memoryCommittedBytes

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.944.2.1.10.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter

Access: read-only

Description: Committed Bytes displays the size of virtual memory (in bytes) that has been Committed (as opposed to simply reserved). Committed memory must have backing (i.e., disk) storage available, or must be assured never to need disk storage (because main memory is large enough to hold it.) Notice that this is an instantaneous count, not an average over the time interval.

What is memoryCommittedBytes?

memoryCommittedBytes reports the instantaneous number of bytes of virtual memory the operating system has actually committed, meaning storage (RAM or the paging file) is guaranteed to back it, as opposed to memory that is merely reserved. Because it is a point-in-time snapshot rather than an average, an admin polling this OID sees the current commitment level at each poll rather than a smoothed trend. For example, a steady climb in successive polls of memoryCommittedBytes toward memoryCommitLimit would indicate the server is heading toward committed-memory exhaustion.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.944.2.1.10.6
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> NEWEXPOSE-MIB::memoryCommittedBytes

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.944.2.1.10.6.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> NEWEXPOSE-MIB::memoryCommittedBytes.1
