OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.3224.0.500

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description:

This trap indicates that VPN tunnel status has occured.

What is netscreenTrapVpn?

This SNMP notification (trap) is sent by Netscreen security devices to alert management stations when a VPN tunnel changes state (such as coming up or going down). Because VPN tunnels are critical for secure site-to-site or remote-access connectivity, immediate notification of state changes allows security teams to quickly respond to connectivity problems or unauthorized disconnections. The trap is part of the device's event notification system for automated monitoring.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' NETSCREEN-TRAP-MIB::netscreenTrapVpn
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.3224.0.500

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:57699->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
