ethFwdVLANMode

Module: NETI-ETH-MIB

OID (symbolic): NETI-ETH-MIB::ethFwdVLANMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2928.2.2.1.2.2.1.10

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: transparent(1). Ignore VLAN tags on received frames. VLAN tags are not added nor removed from the frames. If a frame has a VLAN tag, then it is retained. If a frame does not have a VLAN tag, then no tag is added.

customer(2). VLAN-handling in accordance with IEEE 802.1Q. Frames are forwarded and filtered according to customer VLAN tag. Frames that are not tagged are tagged with default VLAN tag as configured on the interface.

provider(3). VLAN-handling in accordance with IEEE 802.1ad. Frames are forwarded and filtered according to service VLAN tag. Any customer VLAN is ignored. Frames that are not tagged are tagged with default VLAN tag as configured on the interface.

What is ethFwdVLANMode?

Selects the VLAN tag handling model for the forwarding function: transparent(1) passes tags through untouched, customer(2) applies IEEE 802.1Q customer-VLAN switching, and provider(3) applies 802.1ad (Q-in-Q) service-VLAN switching ignoring any customer tag -- an admin picks provider(3) when this forwarding function sits on a service-provider aggregation link.
