linkDown

Module: IF-MIB

OID (symbolic): IF-MIB::linkDown

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description:

A linkDown trap signifies that the SNMP entity, acting in an agent role, has detected that the ifOperStatus object for one of its communication links is about to enter the down state from some other state (but not from the notPresent state). This other state is indicated by the included value of ifOperStatus.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' IF-MIB::linkDown
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:50663->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (496033255) 57 days, 9:52:12.55
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: IF-MIB::linkDown
