ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx

Module: IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB

OID (symbolic): IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB::ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx

OID (numeric): 1.3.111.2.802.1.1.15.1.2.2.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: The number of octets received in this session of this PAE.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of ieee8021XPaePortSessionStartTime.

What is ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx?

A 64-bit counter of octets received during the current authenticated session on this port's Controlled Port, reset to zero whenever a new session starts; admins or a RADIUS/AAA accounting process use it (with ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsTx) to bill or audit per-session traffic volume.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.111.2.802.1.1.15.1.2.2.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB::ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.111.2.802.1.1.15.1.2.2.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB::ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx.1

Start monitoring Vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1X-2010 standard (enterprise access switch/wireless controller, PAE/MKA) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB::ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1X-2010 standard (enterprise access switch/wireless controller, PAE/MKA) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a device implementing IEEE8021X-PAE-MIB as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ieee8021XPaePortSessionOctetsRx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of octets received in this session of this PAE. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in Octets), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
