What is mainIfIndex?

This value is the ifIndex of the main (primary) physical interface belonging to the trunk that switched over, carried in a hwTrunkPortSwitch notification. Admins use it to know which physical link was the primary path before or during a trunk failover event. For example, seeing mainIfIndex 3 in a trap tells the admin interface 3 was the trunk's main link involved in the switch.
