hmLLDPIfaceFDBMode

Module: HMLLDP-MIB

OID (symbolic): HMLLDP-MIB::hmLLDPIfaceFDBMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.248.14.7.1.2.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: If configured to lldpOnly(1), only received LLDP messages will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. If configured to macOnly(2), learned mac addresses out of the switch's forwarding database (FDB) will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. If configured to both(3), both received LLDP messages and learned mac addresses out of the switch's forwarding database (FDB) will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. If configured to autoDetect(4) and LLDP messages are received on this port, this mode will behave like lldpOnly(1), otherwise it will behave like macOnly(2).

What is hmLLDPIfaceFDBMode?

This read-write value controls how a port's entries in the standard LLDP-MIB remTable get populated: lldpOnly(1) uses only received LLDP messages, macOnly(2) uses only MAC addresses learned in the switch's forwarding database, both(3) uses both sources, and autoDetect(4) behaves like lldpOnly when LLDP messages are being received on the port and falls back to macOnly otherwise. Admins choose this per port to control whether neighbor discovery relies purely on LLDP protocol exchanges or also infers neighbors from learned MAC addresses, useful for detecting non-LLDP-capable devices. For example, setting this to autoDetect(4), the default, on a port ensures LLDP-capable neighbors are tracked precisely while non-LLDP devices are still represented via their learned MAC address.
