Category: Vendor: Google

Description: Google Inc. enterprise MIB providing OID namespace registration for internal Google network infrastructure management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GOOGLE-MIB?

GOOGLE-MIB is Google Inc.'s enterprise root MIB module, registered under the IANA enterprise-numbers OID tree, whose purpose is purely to establish Google's private enterprise OID namespace for internal network infrastructure management rather than to define monitorable data itself. It exposes essentially no operational data of its own; instead it serves as the parent registration point under which other Google-specific MIB modules (such as GSA-MIB, imported here as 'gsa') are rooted. As a namespace-registration module, it has no direct hardware or software status objects -- no uptime, temperature, CPU, or fault counters -- and its role is purely structural/organizational within the OID tree. It is a foundational dependency for any Google-branded MIB (like the Google Search Appliance's GSA-MIB) that needs a registered enterprise OID subtree to build upon. It is typically encountered only indirectly, loaded as a prerequisite when working with actual Google infrastructure MIBs such as the Google Search Appliance. Engineers can download the GOOGLE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GOOGLE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-specific namespace root: Google-branded infrastructure (indirectly, as an OID namespace root)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines essentially no monitorable objects itself -- sample_objects lists only the 'IMPORTS' clause and the 'gsa' subtree identifier, confirming it functions as a bare enterprise-OID registration point rather than a data-bearing MIB, so no realistic polling scenario applies to GOOGLE-MIB directly; actual monitoring happens in dependent modules like GSA-MIB that register under it.
