a3ComVlanIfModeType

Module: GENERIC-3COM-VLAN-MIB-1-0-7

OID (symbolic): GENERIC-3COM-VLAN-MIB-1-0-7::a3ComVlanIfModeType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.43.10.1.14.1.2.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: A3ComVlanModeType

Access: read-write

Description: The VLAN mode type for this interface. This object can be set to:

usedefault(1) open(2) closed(3)

UseDefault Vlans: uses the bridge Vlan Mode value. The bridge Vlan Mode Value can be set to : Open, Closed or Mixed.

Open VLANs: have no requirements about relationship between the bridge port that a frame was received upon and the bridge port(s) that it is transmitted on. All open VLANs within the bridge will share the same address table.

Closed VLANs: require that the bridge port that a frame is received on is the same VLAN interface as the bridge port(s) that a frame is transmitted on. Each closed VLAN within the bridge will have its own address table.

What is a3ComVlanIfModeType?

This read-write value sets the VLAN mode for an interface as usedefault(1), open(2), or closed(3), where open VLANs share one bridge address table and closed VLANs each maintain their own. An admin chooses closed mode to enforce that traffic received on a given bridge port only transmits out ports within the same VLAN, isolating each VLAN's MAC address learning. Setting this to closed(3) on a VLAN interface gives that VLAN its own independent address table, separate from other VLANs on the same bridge.
