Description:
The total number of connections (either multicast or unicast) that this network module can support.
The largest possible number of ATM connections can be 2^28 - 1 (i.e., 268435455) since VPI and VCI fields in the ATM cell header occupies a total of 28 bits (12 bits of VPI and 16 bits of VCI). Any value greater than 2^28 - 1 for this MIB will indicate that this network module can support an unlimited number of connections.
What is nGenericShmemMaxConnections?
This read-only object reports the maximum number of ATM connections (multicast or unicast) that a network module can support, limited by 28 bits in the ATM cell header. Values above 268,435,455 indicate unlimited capacity; operators use this to assess module scalability. This helps capacity planning and understanding the connection limits of installed hardware.
