This object classifies an alarm's event type using the enumerated categories defined in ITU recommendations X.733 and X.736, such as communicationsAlarm, equipmentAlarm, or securityServiceViolation. An admin uses it to triage alarms by broad category before looking at the more granular alarmProbableCause, for example routing all securityServiceViolation events to a security team's queue. For instance, a fiber cut reported by the network element would typically appear with alarmEventType set to communicationsAlarm(2).
