What Is Dell-VRTX-MIR-MIB?

This private MIB implements Maximum Information Rate (MIR) traffic-shaping/rate-limiting configuration for a Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis switch module, using the RAD-derived "rl"-prefixed switch OS. It exposes configuration-oriented data for defining and tracking per-interface rate-limiting profiles (MRIs), including how many rate-limit entries are supported and currently in use, and VLAN-based reserved-port rate settings. For status monitoring it is mainly useful for confirming resource utilization of the rate-limiting feature via rlMirCurMriNum against the rlMirMaxNumOfMRIs capacity, and per-interface MRI assignment via rlMirInterfaceMrid, letting an administrator see if the device is near its shaping-table capacity. It depends on standard ifIndex-based interface identification to associate rate limits with physical or VLAN ports. It is typically deployed on Dell VRTX chassis switch modules where administrators need to bound traffic bursts on specific ports or VLANs. Engineers can download the Dell-VRTX-MIR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-VRTX-MIR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • current vs. maximum rate-limit profile count
  • per-interface rate-limit profile assignment
  • VLAN-based reserved ports
  • MIR feature version

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerEdge VRTX chassis switch module

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would compare rlMirCurMriNum to rlMirMaxNumOfMRIs to verify how much of the rate-limiting table capacity is consumed, and walk rlMirInterfaceTable/rlMirInterfaceEntry (keyed by rlMirInterfaceIfIndex) to see which rate-limit profile (rlMirInterfaceMrid) is applied to each port. The rlMirVlanBaseReservedPortsTable would be checked to confirm which ports are reserved from VLAN-based rate-limiting policies. Nearing rlMirMaxNumOfMRIs capacity would signal that new shaping rules cannot be added without freeing existing entries.
