swSysLogServerUDPPort

Module: DLINK-SYSLOG-MIB

OID (symbolic): DLINK-SYSLOG-MIB::swSysLogServerUDPPort

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.12.2.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-create

Description: syslog uses the user datagram protocol (UDP) as its underlying tranaposrt layer mechanism. The UDP port that has been assigned to syslog is 514. It is RECOMMENDED that the source port also be 514 to indicate that the message is form the syslog process of the sender, but there have been cases seen where valid syslog messages have come from a sender with a source port other than 514. If the sender uses a source port other than 514 then it is RECOMMENDED and has been considered to be good from that subsequent messages are from a single consistent port.

What is swSysLogServerUDPPort?

This read-create integer, defaulting to 514, specifies the UDP destination port the switch uses to send syslog messages to this server entry, following the standard syslog convention of port 514. Administrators would only change this from the default if the receiving syslog server or log-management system is configured to listen on a non-standard port. For example, leaving this at the default of 514 lets the switch send log messages to a standard syslog daemon without any special listener configuration.
