swL3IpCtrlIpDhcpOption12HostName

Module: DGS3224-SWL3MGMT-MIB

OID (symbolic): DGS3224-SWL3MGMT-MIB::swL3IpCtrlIpDhcpOption12HostName

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.101.3.3.2.1.3.1.23

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-write

Description: Specify the host name to be inserted in the DHCPDISCOVER and DHCPREQUEST message. The specified host name must start with a letter, end with a letter or digit, and have only letters, digits, and hyphen as interior characters; the maximal length is 63. By default, the host name is empty. When set an empty host name, means to clear the host name setting and use the default value to encode option 12.

What is swL3IpCtrlIpDhcpOption12HostName?

This is the host name string (up to 63 characters, must start with a letter) inserted into DHCP option 12 when the interface requests an address; leaving it empty clears the setting and falls back to the device's default encoding. Admins set this, for example to 'switch-rack3-24', so DHCP server logs and lease tables show a recognizable name for this device.
