gigaStpDemandLearningEnable

Module: DEC-ELAN-MIB

OID (symbolic): DEC-ELAN-MIB::gigaStpDemandLearningEnable

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.36.2.15.3.3.3.2.8.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: If true, then when a source address is learned, the address is only written to the Translation Table in the bridge port on which it was learned. If the address later occurs as a destination address in a packet received on some other bridge port, the packet is flooded if possible and the address is written to the Translation table of the other bridge port at that time. Thus, a bridge port that receives no packets for a certain address will not have that address in its database unless the address had been learned on that bridge port.

If false, then when a source address is learned, the address is promptly written to the Translation Table of every bridge port in the GIGASwitch.

This variable should be set to yes if the total number of learned addresses is expected to be greater than the number supported by the linecards and if there is sufficient locality of traffic that the behavior described above will not result in more than that number of addresses being learned on any one bridge port.

It should be set to no if the total number of learned addresses is not greater than the number supported by the linecards and if it is desired to avoid flooding of packets to already-learned addresses.
