Description: The number of packets which this router has received from this source and addressed to this multicast group address, which were not received from the interface indicated by ipMRouteInIfIndex.
What is ipMRouteRpfFails?
This read-only Counter tracks the number of packets received from a given source for a given multicast group that were not received on the interface indicated by ipMRouteInIfIndex. An admin watches this counter as a direct indicator of RPF check failures, which typically signal misconfigured or asymmetric multicast routing in the network. For example, this counter climbing steadily suggests packets for this (source, group) pair are arriving on more than one path, with the router discarding those that don't match its expected RPF interface.
