This read-only object reports the STEP classification of a component's firmware/hardware build, such as prototype, production, or beta. It tells an admin whether the code running on a unit is a stable production release or a pre-release build that shouldn't be trusted in a production network. For example, discovering a beta step value on a switch that's supposed to be in production service would be a red flag warranting a firmware update.
