This is an octet-string counter recording, in bits, how many bit errors the forward error correction (FEC) engine has detected and corrected on an OTUC2 optical channel. An administrator watches this counter to gauge how noisy or degraded the underlying 200G-class optical path is before it escalates into an unrecoverable failure. For example, if the FEC bit-error count on an OTUC2 link climbs steadily over several hours, it can point to fiber degradation or an amplifier drifting out of spec long before the link actually drops.
